To provide comforts for patients attending the hospital, either as outpatients or inpatients. For example, we have recently provided two sets of framed photographs of Dorset for the waiting rooms and ward at both hospitals.
To actively educate people in the prevention of related cancers and provide reassurance (usually from a former patient), information and other support of potential patients, their carers and families including social activities.
To establish a centre of excellence for research and operate a dedicated centre for About Face within working distance of Poole Hospital. To this end, we have launched a major fund-raising campaign - the Butterfly Appeal.
WHO ARE THE TRUSTEES? Mr V. Ilankovan, Maxillofacial Consultant
Dually trained specialist, qualified both as a dentist and as a doctor, Mr Ilankovan has worked in Dorset for over 10 years and initiated the growth of the MaxFax Depasrtments at both Poole and Dorchester hospitals. Original founder of About Face.
Miss Nicholette Flatman
A former patient of Mr Ilankovan, Nicholette bacame involved with the charity over five years ago and has acted as Company Secretary.
Mrs Mavis Dale
Mavis is a patient of Mr Ilankovan having undergone facial surgery for mouth cancer. She is one of the Founder members of the About Face Support group
Mrs Jo Bell, Dorset County hospital
Jo, originally from a nursing background, has been working in Dorchester Hospital for over six years as secretary to Mr Ilankovan
Miss Christine Brienne, a project manager
Christine joined the Trustees a few years ago after having been involved with About Face as an adviser. She is managing the Befriending service and the Charity website.
Mr Wayne Miller, partner in Messrs. Rawlins Davy, the Bournemouth solicitors
Wayne joined the Trustees when the Charity was reformed in October 2001and his area of responsibility is regarding legal issues
Mr Mervyn Bright (Chair), a practicing Chartered Accountant
Mervyn joined the Board a few years ago and is now the Chair of Trustees, also providing his expertise in Accountancy
