- Look at what the Vodafone Foundation did to support About Face!
One of the Vodafone Foundation's World of Difference UK entrants won a two month placement with About Face,
starting January 2010... and then went on to win their "Best of Blogs" when nominations from 500 other
placement winners were announced. Vodafone wrote to all participants on 8 July saying:
"We asked you towards the end of your placement to tell us your favourite World of Difference UK blog.
We had a great response and loads of nominations but one name stood out...
CONGRATULATIONS Elisabella Vivian..." Check out the blog here
- About Face was nominated as a Waitrose 'Community Matters' charity of the month!
Customers supported About Face in March 2010 at the Winton branch of Waitrose, resulting in the charity getting
the most tokens and the largest donation from the store that month - thank you to all involved!
- The About Face Centre celebrated its First Birthday!
The Centre is located at 111 Longfleet Road, Poole, opposite Poole Hospital and St Mary's Longfleet Church.
During the afternoon of Sunday 31 January 2010, supporters joined in the celebrations, enjoying a buffet, chat,
live music and raffle. See feature in the Bournemouth Daily Echo
The Centre includes meeting rooms for the Befriending support group and workshops, a relaxing space for
patients and their friends and families, a surgical practice suite for trainee surgeons and the About Face office.
 - South Coast Microsurgical Hands On Course
The Centre hosted a successful training day for surgeons on 19 December 2009. The course took place in our
first floor facility both in the Richie Keefe Library and the Michael Le Fort Practical Suite.
Some 20 colleagues attended in their own time from centres across the south coast and were addressed by
Maxillofacial Consultant Surgeons Ilankovan, Ramchandani and Walji before they went on to supervise
the teaching, giving their time free of charge.

- Support Group - 1st Monday of each month - 7.30pm (or second Monday if the first is a Bank Holiday)
A support group meets at the Centre on the first Monday of each month at 7.30pm. You are all welcome.
- Drop In! - Tuesdays - 9.30am - 1pm
It is 'Open House' at the Centre every Tuesday from 9.30am to 1pm for patients and their family/friends,carers, as well as
supporting individuals and organisations. Come in for a cuppa, met the core volunteers and have a tour of the Centre!

Mouth Cancer is a malignant growth which can occur in any part of the mouth, including lips and tongue.
Mouth Cancer often appears as a painless mouth ulcer that does not heal normally or, less often, as a red or white patch in the mouth.
Anyone can be affected, but smoking or chewing tobacco as well as heavy drinking greatly increase your risk of mouth cancer.
Early detection is important.
