A CENTRE for About Face

A new Centre is now open near Poole Hospital.  The Centre hosts a reception and meeting room for patients and families and will offer all relevant information and support services.
It also provides a library and study room, short-term accommodation and a surgical practice suite for use by trainee surgeons and nurses working alongside Mr Ilankovan's team at Poole Hospital.

About Face BEFRIENDING

The About Face Befriending service aims to offer patients with oral and maxillofacial disorders and their carers, a support network and one to one mentoring.
A support group meets on the first Monday of each month at 7.30pm at the Centre.

IMPROVING the Quality of life of Patients

The Trust donated a set of twelve framed photographs of Dorset for display in the waiting room and wards at Poole and Dorchester Hospitals. These were taken by Margaret Bright and are proving to be rather more relaxing for patients than the previous prints on display.

In the past, other donations have contributed to improving the well being of patients and providing specialist medical facilities:

KTP CO2 Laser for Oral Surgery - Donated in 1999, this laser has rapidly rxtended the applications of laser surgery within the Maxillo-Facial and ENT Departments.
Recliner Chairs - Three recliner arm chairs have been donated for the use of patients on C2
Hendrika Flatman Medical Library - Donated in September 1999 from the family of the late Mrs Flatman and now supported by About Face.
Specialist Huntleigh Bed - This was donated in 2002 and is in use on C2 ward.  This will provide greater comfort for postoperative patients recovering from the head and neck surgery.
Digital Camera - This camera is used to photograph wounds to show to colleagues for advice or to discuss a treatment plan.
TV with Video and DVD - This is being used by Mr Ilankovan as a teaching aid for the students and surgeons at Dorchester Hospital.
