Volunteering at AboutFace offers opportunities to serve others according to their skills. Some specialise in one to one support while others can offer more practical help. We try, where possible, to match new patients to a volunteer whose experience is similar. This can take the form of an initial conversation at the AboutFace centre or on the phone.
Each person chooses the level of support that feels comfortable for them and for those who want to come and enjoy coffee, cake and good conversation, our volunteers are here to offer a warm welcome.
Volunteers often work on occasions when AboutFace is active around Dorset and Hampshire. Fund raising events, shows, fetes, exhibitions and talks provide volunteers with an excellent opportunity to meet people and raise the profile of the charity.
Volunteers can also play a role at our Support Group Meetings by listening, sharing experience, and offering emotional help where needed.
How you can volunteer
We encourage anybody who wants to be involved to get to know us first and join us on a Tuesday morning for the ‘drop-in’ and chat to us about how they can get involved in such activities as:
- One to one and group support
Catering and hosting
Offering lifts to those without transport
Keeping in touch with people
Accompanying patients to hospital visits
